Building Thinking Classrooms.jpg

My math team decided to use our subject area collaboration time to do a book study of Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics. We extended our learning after each session by implementing strategies in our classroom and coming together to discuss the impact these had on student learning. Linked please find the book club guide we used to facilitate our discussions.

Our school took two years to dive deeply into our math curriculum and determine what our priorities were as a school and teachers.  Following this deep dive we determined that the Illustrative math curriculum would be the best fit for our school and students.  Linked find a sample of the planning documents we used during this process.

As we discussed how we could take our math teaching practice to the next level, a theme emerged.  We needed to get into eachother's classrooms.  We wanted to see our coworkers teach and learn from them.  Each team participated in 2-3 math labsites throughout the year and reflected together on the impact their learning would have on their own teaching practice. Attached you can find the planner we used to facilitate these lab sites.

Enrichment Implementation

How can we support our students with mathematical promise?  It's a question I think I hear asked at every school I've worked with and probably ever year I've worked with teachers on math instruction.  This year our school worked to build a math enrichment program that would be strategic, sustainable and data driven.  (Coming soon - outline of our program)
